President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned a new chancery for Ghana’s Embassy in Addis Ababa, marking a major step in strengthening the country’s diplomatic footprint in East Africa.
The project, which commenced in 2016, is seen as a significant milestone in Ghana’s diplomatic engagement, particularly as Addis Ababa hosts the headquarters of the African Union.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Mahama underscored the importance of Ghana’s presence in Ethiopia’s capital, describing the new chancery as a symbol of the country’s commitment to deepening bilateral and multilateral relations across the continent.

The event was attended by Ethiopia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, members of the diplomatic corps based in Addis Ababa, and representatives of the Ghanaian community in Ethiopia.
The new facility is expected to enhance the operations of Ghana’s diplomatic mission and provide improved services to Ghanaians and other stakeholders engaging with the embassy.
The commissioning forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic infrastructure and reinforce its active role within continental institutions.
