Kumasi, Ghana – Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu has officially been sworn in as the new Asante Mamponghene, taking the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, in a ceremony presided over by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III becomes the 17th occupant of the Asante Mampong Silver Stool, a position regarded as second-in-command within the Asante Kingdom when the Asantehene is absent. The new chief assumes the role following the nomination and official gazetting process, with the kingmakers and Mampong Queen Mother presenting him to the Asantehene on December 18, 2025.
During the swearing-in, chiefs from the various divisions of the Asante Kingdom urged the new Mamponghene to prioritize peace, unity, and cooperation as pillars for the development of the Asante Mampong Traditional Council. They also emphasized the need to maintain a strong stance against illegal mining, a commitment upheld by his late predecessor, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
In response, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III pledged to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor and work tirelessly to promote stability and development across the traditional area.
Traditional rulers and queen mothers attending the ceremony expressed confidence in the new chief’s leadership. “We want peace, unity, and development from him as he ascends the throne. We believe in him and are ready to support him,” one queen mother stated.
The installation of Daasebre Osei Bonsu III is seen as a significant moment for the Asante Kingdom, reaffirming the Silver Stool’s role in ensuring continuity, leadership, and governance within the region.
