Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has gone public with serious allegations against his former record label, Ground Up Chale. He claims the label is harassing him, trying to control his image and music, and blocking his independent projects.
In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday, January 21, the award winning artiste revealed that the label is demanding 150,000 dollars from him just to use photos of himself in a current release.
Kwesi Arthur said executives of Ground Up Chale, including Glen Boateng, insist they still own his image, his music, and everything connected to his career from 2016 to today. He says this is happening even though they have not worked together since the release of his Son of Jacob project.
According to the rapper, he did not earn any income from his music during the years he was with the label. Instead, he claims he was subjected to constant pressure, threats, and manipulation.
He also accused Glen Boateng of deliberately working to stop him from releasing music on his own. Kwesi Arthur warned fans that if his current project is removed or blocked, they should hold the Ground Up executive responsible.
The rapper explained that he decided to speak out because he is worried about his safety and the safety of his family. He also said the long running dispute has had a serious impact on his mental wellbeing.
“I have tried to stay quiet for a long time,” he wrote, “but this situation has greatly affected my wellbeing and mental health. For the safety of myself and my family, I had to speak up.”
Kwesi Arthur became one of Ghana’s biggest hip hop stars after rising to fame under Ground Up Chale. His claims have now sparked widespread debate in the music industry and on social media.
