The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central Constituency, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has called on women to pursue bold ambitions, take control of their finances and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Delivering remarks on the theme “Building a Nation: A Woman Leader’s Journey in Business, Politics and Financial Empowerment,” the lawmaker shared her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to becoming a successful entrepreneur and political leader.
According to her, her entry into politics initially surprised many people, but her motivation was rooted in a strong desire to uplift her family, community and the nation.
“When I became a Member of Parliament, everyone was shocked, but I wanted to help my family, friends and community. When you do something good, it helps everyone around you,” she said.
From Humble Beginnings to Business Success
Hon. Cudjoe explained that her family business interests span gold mining, gold trading, agriculture and construction, sectors that have grown steadily over several decades.
She noted that the family began with very little but relied on hard work, honesty and determination to build a thriving enterprise that has endured for over 70 years.
Creating Jobs and Supporting Education
Highlighting the social impact of her work, the MP disclosed that her initiatives have created employment for 137 teachers and supported the education of about 8,800 children.
She added that her various businesses currently employ more than 6,000 workers across mining, construction and other sectors, providing livelihoods for thousands of families.
According to her, job creation remains central to her mission of empowering communities and strengthening Ghana’s economy.

Call for Financial Independence for Women
Hon. Cudjoe urged women to dream big and take responsibility for their financial future.
“As women, we must dream big, be kind and take care of our finances,” she stated, explaining that financial independence empowers women to support their families and contribute to national development.
A Story of Determination and Leadership
Reflecting on her personal journey, Hon. Cudjoe acknowledged the challenges she faced on her path to success but emphasised that perseverance helped her overcome them.
“I know where I come from. I was once nobody, but today I stand here as a business leader and Member of Parliament,” she said.
She encouraged young people and aspiring entrepreneurs to remain focused on their goals and to pursue opportunities that will allow them to make a meaningful impact in their communities and the country at large.
