The Government of Ghana has confirmed reports of a terrorist attack involving a truck carrying Ghanaian tomato traders in northern Burkina Faso.

According to preliminary information from Burkinabe authorities, the traders were travelling through the town of Titao on Saturday, February 14, 2026, when their vehicle was caught up in an ആക്രമ attack believed to have been carried out by armed extremists operating in the area.

Details remain unclear. The number of casualties, possible injuries, and the identities of those involved have not yet been officially established.

Embassy Engages Authorities

Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso says it is working closely with local officials to verify the facts and determine whether any Ghanaian nationals were directly affected.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 15, the Embassy confirmed it is coordinating efforts to visit the attack site. The objective is to gather first-hand information, identify any Ghanaians involved, and assess their condition.

Officials say the priority is to establish accurate details and provide the necessary support to victims and their families if confirmed.

A Troubled Region

Northern Burkina Faso has witnessed repeated militant attacks in recent years, with armed groups targeting civilians, security personnel, and commercial transport routes. Traders operating across borders in the sub-region often rely on these routes for the movement of agricultural goods, including tomatoes bound for Ghanaian markets.

The latest incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of Ghanaian traders who travel through high-risk areas in the Sahel for business.

Government Assures Support

The Government of Ghana has described the information received as disturbing and says it remains in close contact with Burkinabe authorities. Further updates are expected once the Embassy completes its fact-finding mission.

Families of the traders and members of the business community are awaiting confirmation as diplomatic and security channels work to clarify the situation.
