Political aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, says the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer hopeful remains the most prepared and credible candidate among all those contesting the party’s presidential slot.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s campaign, which is anchored on ideas and policy direction, positions the NPP strongly ahead of the next general elections.
Mr. Tonto made the remarks in an interview with Moro Awudu on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV. He explained that the former Vice President is using the campaign period to highlight his experience in governance, economic management and public service, while engaging party delegates on practical solutions to national challenges.
The New Patriotic Party is expected to hold its presidential primary on January 31 to select a flagbearer for the 2028 elections. While several aspirants are in the race, Mr. Tonto insists Dr. Bawumia stands out as the most competent and ready to lead the party.
He noted that Dr. Bawumia’s track record in government, coupled with his understanding of economic reforms and digital transformation, gives him an advantage over his competitors.
“Bawumia is the only person with clear ideas and a strong vision to move Ghana forward,” Mr. Tonto stated, adding that the former Vice President’s campaign reflects a deep grasp of the country’s problems and workable solutions.
He further described Dr. Bawumia’s approach as mature and issue-driven, saying the campaign avoids personal attacks, insults and intimidation, and instead focuses on policy direction and national development.
Mr. Tonto concluded that Dr. Bawumia remains the NPP’s strongest option to reclaim political power in 2028, stressing that his message, leadership style and vision offer the party its best chance of electoral success.
