The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin has challenged the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, to publicly account for government interventions in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, arguing that campaign promises have not translated into tangible results.

Speaking at a media engagement dubbed HOLDING GOVERNMENT TO ACCOUNT at the D.F Annan auditorium in Parliament, Afenyo Markin acknowledged the minister’s familiarity with the sector but dismissed government rhetoric as insufficient. “Talk is cheap. What matters is implementation,” he said, he is urging the minister to hold a press conference to outline concrete policies introduced to support agriculture in the area.

He argued that there is little evidence of impactful government policy in the agro sector and described the fisheries subsector as particularly neglected. “In fisheries, the less said the better,” he stated, adding that the lack of progress contradicts the assurances given while the party was in opposition.

According to him, the current administration has failed to deliver meaningful growth in both agriculture and fisheries, a shortfall he said is evident on the ground.

The comments add to growing public scrutiny of government performance in key productive sectors central to employment and food security.
