Asante Kotoko players have been promised a special qualification bonus if they progress to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage.

The club’s Director of Communications, Sarfo Duku, confirmed the incentive, explaining that while players usually receive winning bonuses in the Ghana Premier League, qualification on the continental stage will attract an additional package.

“Kotoko players always get a winning bonus, but qualifying from the preliminary stage will come with an appreciable amount of money,” Duku told Nhyira FM.

Kotoko secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Nigeria’s Kwara United in the first leg last Sunday in Kumasi. The Porcupines will travel to Nigeria on Friday for the decisive return leg, which will be played on Sunday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, the temporary home ground of Kwara United.

A win or draw will see Kotoko advance to the next round, where they are set to face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

Duku expressed confidence in Kotoko’s chances, stressing that the neutral venue in Abeokuta offers his side a fair advantage.

“Asante Kotoko is ahead of Kwara United on any platform, so they should be able to account for them. The good news is that the match will be played on a neutral ground, which gives us a significant advantage. I assure all Kotoko fans that after Sunday’s game, Kotoko will qualify for the next stage,” he said.
