President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to accountability, inclusive governance, and national development during a Town Hall Meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom.

The engagement formed part of activities surrounding the Ghana-UK Investment Summit, which seeks to strengthen bilateral trade relations, deepen economic cooperation, and attract strategic investments to support Ghana’s development agenda.

Addressing participants, President Mahama highlighted the important role of the Ghanaian diaspora in national development and assured them that government remains committed to creating opportunities for their active participation in governance and decision-making processes.

He disclosed that ongoing constitutional review discussions are exploring measures to expand diaspora involvement in national affairs, including provisions that would enable qualified dual citizens to serve in Parliament and hold ministerial positions.

According to the President, such reforms would harness the expertise, experience, and resources of Ghanaians living abroad while strengthening the country’s democratic institutions.

President Mahama also pointed to Ghana’s improving economic outlook, noting that the country is increasingly being recognised internationally as a model for economic recovery, fiscal discipline, and reform.

He expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic prospects and reiterated government’s determination to implement policies that promote sustainable growth, job creation, and investor confidence.

Touching on regional integration, the President reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing it as a key driver of economic transformation and shared prosperity across the continent.

He stressed that stronger regional cooperation and increased intra-African trade would create new opportunities for businesses, enhance competitiveness, and accelerate economic development.

The Town Hall Meeting provided an opportunity for members of the Ghanaian community in the UK to interact directly with the President, raise concerns, and discuss issues affecting both Ghana and the diaspora.

The engagement further highlighted the strategic importance of the Ghanaian diaspora in promoting investment, strengthening international partnerships, and contributing to Ghana’s long-term socio-economic transformation.
