Speaking at the Ghana Book Party in commemoration of World Book and Copyright Day, Mr. Joseph Baffuor-Gyamfi highlighted the importance of copyright protection and the legal frameworks that support Ghana’s literary and creative industries.

During his contribution, he outlined key legal challenges affecting authors and publishers, stressing that weak enforcement of copyright laws continues to undermine creativity and limit growth within the sector.

Mr. Baffuor-Gyamfi emphasised that protecting intellectual property is fundamental to building a sustainable creative economy. He noted that when writers and publishers are assured of legal protection, they are more confident in producing and distributing original content.

He also raised concerns about digital piracy, pointing out that the shift towards online publishing has increased the risk of unauthorised use and distribution of creative works. According to him, this makes it even more important to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and legal awareness.

Additionally, he called for more education within the creative space, urging authors and publishers to better understand their rights and the legal processes available to them when those rights are infringed.

His remarks added a critical legal dimension to the broader discussions at the event, reinforcing the need to protect creativity as Ghana continues to develop its literary and publishing landscape.
