The campaign team of Dr. Charles Dwamena has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media suggesting the misuse of a shortcode to divert party funds.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the team described as “false and malicious” claims that a shortcode (7142028#) is being used by the National Treasurer to redirect New Patriotic Party (NPP) dues into a personal account.

According to the statement, the campaign clarified that it officially secured a different shortcode (7132028#) through Hubtel in February 2026 strictly for campaign donations. The team emphasized that this platform is yet to be fully launched and has so far recorded only GHS1,214.10 in pilot contributions as of April 22, 2026.

The campaign further alleged that the misleading claims are being propagated by individuals linked to Justin Kodua Frimpong, the incumbent General Secretary whom Dr. Dwamena is contesting.

Providing additional context, the statement revealed that on April 21, 2026, a request was made by the NPP Deputy Director of IT to register the shortcode (7142028#) as an alternative platform for party dues collection. However, the National Treasurer reportedly objected, warning that activating the new code could create confusion, and instead recommended maintaining the party’s official shortcode.

The campaign clarified the distinction between the platforms:

  • NPP official dues shortcode: 920270#
  • Dr. Dwamena campaign shortcode: 7132028#

“These are entirely separate systems and are not linked in any way,” the statement stressed.

Despite the controversy, the campaign says it remains focused on promoting Dr. Dwamena’s track record as National Treasurer and his vision for the party.

“We will not be distracted by these smear attempts. Our focus remains on restoring the NPP’s strength and unity,” the release stated.

The statement was signed by Yaw Yeboah, Director of Communication for the campaign team.
