Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan Bekoe: The Woman Who Carried “Made in Ghana” On Her Shoulders for Decades

Spread the love

For many years, when imported goods were seen as superior and foreign products were the preference of many Ghanaian consumers, one woman consistently championed a different cause, the promotion of locally made products.

That woman is Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan Bekoe, a passionate advocate who dedicated decades of her life to promoting made-in-Ghana products, foods, clothing, and locally manufactured goods.

Long before the national conversation about patronizing local products became popular, she was already moving from place to place, market to market, exhibition to exhibition, encouraging Ghanaians to believe in their own products and support local businesses. At the time, many people did not understand her mission.

Some considered her unusual, others thought her passion for locally made products was unnecessary, and a few even described her as strange for constantly choosing Ghanaian products over imported ones. But she remained focused and committed to her vision.

Her belief was simple: Ghana could develop faster if Ghanaians supported what they produced. She consistently wore made-in-Ghana clothes, promoted local foods, supported local artisans, and encouraged young entrepreneurs to produce and market Ghanaian goods.

She spent years advocating for local industries, sometimes with little recognition, but she continued because she believed the future of the country depended on supporting local production.

Her journey was not without challenges. Promoting local products in a society where foreign goods were seen as a sign of prestige required patience, sacrifice, and resilience.

But she persevered, attending fairs, organizing exhibitions, speaking to traders and producers, and continuously educating the public on the importance of buying Ghanaian products.

Today, the results of her years of dedication are becoming evident. The made-in-Ghana campaign has gained national attention. Ghanaian fashion is now celebrated both locally and internationally.

Locally produced foods and goods are receiving more patronage, and many young entrepreneurs are venturing into local manufacturing, fashion, cosmetics, food processing, and handicrafts.

What many people once ignored has now become a national movement.

Beyond her advocacy for local products, Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan Bekoe has also contributed significantly in the corporate and institutional space.

She currently serves as the Director of Corporate Affairs at the Kofi Annan ICT Centre of Excellence, where she continues to promote innovation, communication, institutional partnerships, and national development through technology and corporate engagement.

Her story is a reminder that sometimes the people who are misunderstood at the beginning are the same people whose efforts later transform society.

Her decades of hard work, advocacy, and dedication to promoting Ghanaian products have contributed to the growing recognition of local industries and the importance of economic self-reliance.

Today, many people proudly wear made-in-Ghana clothes, eat local foods, and promote Ghanaian products.

Years ago, she was one of the few voices saying exactly that. Her toil and efforts have indeed yielded results, and her contribution to the promotion of made-in-Ghana products deserves recognition and appreciation.

Her story is not just about promoting local goods.

It is about patriotism, perseverance, and believing in Ghana even when many others did not.

Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan Bekoe’s legacy will be remembered as one of dedication, vision, and commitment to national development through the promotion of made-in-Ghana products and her continued service to national development through her corporate leadership role.
