John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) recovered more than GH₵600 million in public funds as of December 2025, describing the development as a firm signal of government’s intensified anti-corruption drive.
Presenting his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, the President said EOCO investigated 462 cases within the review period, with 15 currently before the courts.
He added that the agency dismantled transnational carjacking syndicates and retrieved 29 luxury vehicles believed to have been stolen.
Wide-Ranging Investigations
According to President Mahama, the ongoing investigations span procurement breaches, financial misappropriation, money laundering, tax evasion, cybercrime, and cross-border organised crime.
Some of the cases involve former ministry officials alleged to have authorised irregular payments, senior executives of state-owned enterprises linked to procurement violations, and private businesspersons suspected of benefiting from inflated contracts.
Prosecution and Asset Recovery
The President stressed that the fight against corruption will not be selective.
“The government remains resolute that corruption will not be tolerated regardless of status or political affiliations,” he stated.
He noted that the Office of the Attorney General will pursue both criminal prosecution and non-conviction-based asset recovery mechanisms to ensure that misappropriated public resources are returned to the state.
President Mahama said the recoveries and ongoing prosecutions demonstrate renewed commitment to safeguarding public funds and strengthening accountability systems.
He maintained that protecting national resources remains central to Ghana’s broader development agenda, assuring citizens that enforcement agencies will continue to act decisively against economic and organised crime.
