Hungary and Egypt have proposed a €200,000 medical support project aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in Ghana, following a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

Officials from the two embassies met with the Health Minister to discuss potential areas of collaboration in the health sector. Central to the discussions was a pilot initiative that would deploy medical specialists and supply essential equipment to a selected hospital in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the delegation, the project is intended to serve as the foundation for a broader, long-term partnership between Ghana, Hungary and Egypt. The envoys requested that the Ministry of Health nominate a beneficiary hospital and provide formal endorsement to facilitate the implementation of the initiative.

The proposal also includes plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to clearly define the scope of cooperation, including the types of medical equipment to be delivered and the categories of specialists to be deployed.

In addition to equipment and expert support, the initiative places strong emphasis on capacity building. Selected Ghanaian health professionals are expected to receive training to ensure sustainability and lasting benefits beyond the pilot phase.

The delegation was led by the Hungarian Ambassador, Tamás Fehér, and the Egyptian Ambassador, Wael Fathy. Both diplomats reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to strengthening collaboration with Ghana in the health sector.

Hon. Akandoh welcomed the proposal and assured the envoys of the Ministry’s willingness to support partnerships that improve healthcare delivery, enhance local capacity and promote knowledge sharing.

The engagement reflects Ghana’s growing focus on practical international partnerships aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare for its citizens.
