Adentan MCE to break NDC in the area if care is not taken

Tension is mounting in parts of the Adentan Municipality as residents warn that the conduct of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Ella Christine Esinam Nongo could seriously undermine the fortunes of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area if urgent steps are not taken to address growing concerns.

At the centre of the controversy is an intended demolition exercise to make way for a proposed 24-hour business enclave within the municipality.

Residents and affected property owners say they are not opposed to development but are alarmed by what they describe as the MCE’s refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue with those whose homes and businesses are expected to be pulled down.

According to some of the affected residents, repeated requests for meetings and consultations with the MCE and municipal authorities have gone unanswered. They argue that the lack of engagement has created fear, uncertainty and anger within the community, especially among people who say they have lived or operated businesses in the area for years.

“We are not against development,” one resident said. “What we are asking for is proper engagement, fair notice and clear explanations. Instead, we are being ignored, and that is breeding resentment.”

Some residents further allege that the MCE is taking advice from individuals they describe as “enemies of the government,” whom they claim are pushing an approach that alienates grassroots supporters of the NDC. According to them, these influences are encouraging a top-down decision-making style that disregards the concerns of ordinary residents and party loyalists in the municipality.

Community members warn that the situation, if not handled carefully, could have political consequences. They say frustration over the proposed demolition and the absence of dialogue could weaken support for the NDC at the local level, especially if affected residents feel betrayed by an administration they helped bring to power.

Political observers note that development projects, while necessary, often become flashpoints when community engagement is lacking. They argue that open consultation, transparency and fair compensation where applicable are critical to maintaining public trust.

Residents are therefore calling on the Adentan MCE and the municipal assembly to urgently open channels of communication, engage affected persons, and address their concerns before any demolition begins. They insist that inclusive dialogue will not only ease tensions but also protect the unity and political strength of the NDC in the Adentan area.

  1. You see some people will definitely find fault with and blame others for the cause what is about to happen. But this is constituency project that must go on.The time has come for the project to be done. We shouldn’t undermine what they want to do but help it to be done. Remember it is NDC project that will give honour to the party and Adenta community as a whole. If they are saying compazation fine if there is it should be given. But if there is no compazation then the people should know that sometimes we to sacrifice. Thank you.

    1. The issue is not about compensation. What the people are asking for is leadership and genuine human engagement. A good leader, one with emotional intelligence, would sit with them, explain the government’s agenda clearly, and outline how the project will benefit them and the wider community. Instead, the Assembly and the MCE are choosing a path of intimidation and fear. That approach only deepens mistrust. The real question is this: when elections come, will you be able to return to these same people and ask for their support?
