The Pro-Chancellor and Founder of Knutsford University, Bishop John Kwamena Essel has said that Africa rises faster when united.
This came to light during the historic post-charter congregation of Knutsford University in Accra.
Referencing the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah and a renewed call for continental solidarity, the institution proposed a concept it calls the “United Kingdoms of Africa.” This vision respects the continent’s cultural diversity while strengthening its political and economic leverage.
Bishop John Kwamena Essel pointed to promising efforts already underway, such as AfCFTA, which creates the world’s largest free trade zone by number of countries. However, the university argued that integration must go deeper — in infrastructure, governance, education, and mobility.
Knutsford aspires to help shape that integration through academic leadership. Its programs focus on Pan-African collaboration, including cross-border learning, digital resource sharing, and research partnerships devoted to African-defined priorities.
With a united Africa speaking with one voice — from the UN to the global technology market — the University believes the continent can secure a fair seat at the table of world powers. For Knutsford students, this means being trained not only for personal success but for continental responsibility.
