Edwin Okyere Boateng, spokesperson for the youth in Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, has expressed serious concerns about Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s readiness and consistency to lead the New Patriotic Party. Speaking in an interview on Adwenekasa, a political talk show hosted by Kwaku Adjei Pato on Original TV, Edwin said the party needs stable and trusted leadership, which he believes Bawumia is not demonstrating at this time.

According to Edwin, Dr Bawumia has shown significant inconsistency in both his statements and leadership style. He pointed to an incident in the Central Region where the Vice President reportedly said he was unaware of an increase in fuel prices. As head of the Economic Management Team, Bawumia should have known about such a major national economic issue. Edwin said this incident exposes a weakness and disconnect within the Vice President’s role in government.

Edwin highlighted that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has publicly stated multiple times that he brought Dr Bawumia into the government to help solve Ghana’s economic challenges. Despite this, Edwin argued, Bawumia has struggled to deliver on this responsibility.

He also noted a shift in Dr Bawumia’s public image. Ghanaians initially knew him as an economic expert. Over time, however, he began presenting himself as a digital advocate. Edwin sees this shift as another clear sign of inconsistency in Bawumia’s leadership approach.

Furthermore, Edwin pointed out that Dr Bawumia later apologized for mistakes made under the current administration. In Edwin’s view, this apology further confirms that the Vice President has not provided the strong and consistent leadership expected of him.

Edwin Okyere Boateng concluded by stressing that the New Patriotic Party requires a leader who is strong, honest, and consistent. He believes Dr Bawumia is not ready at this moment to lead the party, especially during this critical period in Ghana’s political landscape.
