The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has confiscated 98 unregistered herbal medicines during a market surveillance operation carried out in parts of Accra between November 22 and 24, 2025.

The exercise, conducted at Awoshie and Boundary Road, targeted products that had not been approved for sale. Among the seized items were Amenazel Herbal Tonic, Amenazel Herbal Bitters and Poget Herbal Mixture. The FDA says all the confiscated products will be safely destroyed to protect public health.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Authority cautioned traders who continue to sell unregistered medicines, stressing that enforcement efforts will intensify. “We will not relent in our efforts, and sooner than you think, we will get to you,” the FDA warned.

The operation forms part of a broader campaign to remove unverified and potentially dangerous herbal products from the market and to ensure that all medicines sold to the public meet safety and quality standards.
