The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has stressed that protecting the value of the Cedi is a national obligation shared by all Ghanaians, not a responsibility reserved for the central bank alone.
Speaking at the Currency Anniversary Conference in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as part of the ongoing Cedi@60 celebrations, Dr. Asiama highlighted the crucial role citizens, businesses, and institutions play in strengthening confidence in the local currency.
According to the Governor, safeguarding the Cedi goes beyond monetary policy interventions or regulatory measures. He explained that everyday economic decisions from spending habits to business practices—directly influence the currency’s stability.
“It is my hope that every Ghanaian from the child learning to count, to the trader serving her community, to the entrepreneur building something new can continue to hold the Cedi with unwavering confidence and pride.”
He underscored that maintaining a stable currency requires unity and a shared sense of national responsibility.
“May we always remember that protecting the Cedi is not the task of any one institution. It is a shared endeavour an endeavour rooted in our belief in Ghana’s future.”
