The Food and Drugs Authority has seized more than forty cartons of expired drinks at Tema during a recent market surveillance exercise, raising fresh concerns about unsafe products on the market and the need for Ghanaians to be more alert when buying food and beverages.

According to the Authority, the items were taken for safe disposal after inspectors discovered them on sale.

Officials say the incident highlights a recurring challenge, one that requires both sellers and buyers to take greater responsibility for the safety of products in circulation.

The Authority is urging the public to pay close attention to basic checks before buying anything, including expiry dates, best before dates, valid FDA registration numbers and signs of rust, dents or bloating on cans or bottles.

These simple steps, it says, can prevent avoidable health risks and help build a safer market for everyone.

The Authority added that consumer protection is a shared duty and appealed to the public to treat product safety as a personal responsibility rather than an obligation left solely to regulators.
