The Kwahu Traditional Council has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the Paramount Queen Mother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, has been abducted. The Council described the claim published by News platforms as entirely false.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Council explained that the Ghana Police Service acted strictly on an interlocutory injunction issued by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on June 24, 2024. The injunction, granted in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, restrains Baffour Osei Akoto who has been presenting himself as Kwahuhene together with the Queen Mother and others, from interfering with Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II’s occupation and duties at the Abene Palace.
According to the Council, police intervention at the palace was aimed at preventing clashes that could have threatened peace and safety in the area.
The statement stressed that the Queen Mother does not reside at the Abene Palace, and none of the individuals arrested during the police operation were abducted. “Contrary to circulating rumours, no abduction has taken place,” the Council noted.
The Council further alleged that the Queen Mother had mobilised thugs in an attempt to forcibly take over the palace and had issued threats intended to disrupt the work of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the substantive Kwahuhene.
Authorities confirmed that all individuals arrested are in lawful custody and are safe and in good health.
The Council has also made available a copy of the official order from the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs for public reference.
The statement was signed by Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, President of the Kwahu Traditional Council.
