Ghana’s rap heavyweight, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has assured fans of an unforgettable experience at this year’s Rapperholic concert, which comes to Kumasi for the first time.

The BET award-winner described the upcoming show at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the “biggest Rapperholic yet,” promising a night of electrifying performances featuring some of Ghana’s top music stars, including Shatta Wale, Gyakie, Kofi Kinaata, Skyface, and JayBhad.

“This is going to be my biggest Rapperholic yet. What we are trying to do here is going to be hard for anyone to beat because we are putting in the best of everything we have for this one,” Sarkodie told Luv FM’s Drive Time show.

Dubbed the “Homecoming Edition,” the concert holds special significance for the rapper, who hails from Juaso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region. He described the Kumasi show as a return to his roots and hinted that it will mark the beginning of an annual tradition in the region.

Despite years of commanding global stages, Sarkodie admitted that he still gets nervous before performing. “I believe if you love something, you are supposed to be nervous. When I feel nervous, that’s what makes me put out my best,” he said.

The rapper also revealed he has a “very big folder” of unreleased songs, including one with highlife legend Daddy Lumba. He emphasised that his passion for music has never been driven by money but by a spiritual connection to the art.

“I love money but I don’t do music because of money. I just love music… music is spiritual and has the power to let you love what you don’t love,” he explained.

Touching on his bond with dancehall star Shatta Wale, Sarkodie noted that while they often share the same values, they pursue them in different ways. “Everything that Wale likes I like, what differs is our strategy to get those things,” he said.

Fans in Kumasi can expect high-energy performances, surprise acts, and what Sarkodie says will be a once-in-a-lifetime show as Rapperholic Homecoming makes history in the Garden City.
