More than 105,000 applicants have qualified for the medical examination stage of the ongoing security services recruitment exercise, even though only 5,000 candidates will eventually be recruited, the Interior Minister, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has disclosed.
According to the Minister, the high number of candidates reaching the medical stage reflects the intense interest in joining Ghana’s security services. However, the final intake remains limited due to the capacity of the various agencies.
Explaining the rationale behind the recruitment process, Mr. Muntaka said authorities had to introduce measures to control the large number of applicants and ensure the process remains fair and manageable.
“Are you going to allow over 400,000 people to go and do medicals when you know you have space for only 5,000? How fair are you to the people? You need to devise a method to slow down the numbers and have a reasonable figure,” he stated.
He revealed that the pass mark for the recruitment examination was set at 65 percent, a threshold that was communicated to candidates before the start of the tests.
“So at 65, as we speak, we still have 105,000 that have qualified for medicals when in actual sense the total number that we can now take after medicals is 5,000,” the Minister added.
Despite the large number of applicants progressing to the medical stage, Mr. Muntaka noted that many candidates who pass the medical examinations may still not be recruited due to the limited vacancies available across the security agencies this year.
The recruitment exercise has attracted over 400,000 applicants nationwide, highlighting the strong demand for employment within Ghana’s security services. Authorities say the remaining stages of the process will be conducted carefully to ensure transparency and fairness.
